What do you think about if you hear the words, Corsets and Bustiers? Until I learned about them, I honestly did not think much about them. But, I decided I needed to do some studying when, out of curiosity, I just wanted to know more.
Now, we like to think that we are a much better civilization than those who proceeded us. But, I do not really see that as true. Oh sure, we have technology but, does that really give us the upper hand when it comes to how society as a whole behaves?
Yes, women went to extremes to achieve, what was considered, then, the perfect body. It was, more or less, a facade. The corset gave the illusion that a woman had rounded breasts, a voluptuous derriere and a “tiny” waist. Of course you could only get so small. They manipulated the body just as plastic surgery, stomach banding and liposuction do in our day and age.
Corsets were aggravating devices which put women through a living hell. They were thick, binding articles which were originally worn for fashion. Those on a higher monetary level wore these items and, of course, thought of themselves on pedestals. Eventually though, if a woman were to be considered “decent” she wore one or would be thought of as a loose woman.
Bustiers on the other hand were more delicate to a woman’s skin. Bustiers were used to hold up the bust. Any woman who has run without wearing a bra can understand the need to protect the breasts. It may be sexy to some to see a woman who does not use a bra and has them bouncy around but, truth be told, that is not good for the woman’s bosom. The difference between corsets and bustiers is corsets squeezed the body, bustiers lifted the breasts.
I am not the variety of person who enjoys conforming to what is being dictated to me. I am more of a free spirit and enjoy doing what I like to do. And let’s face it, back in those days, I do not think exercising and watching what you eat, were of great concern. Corsets were a way to alter the body as much as stomach banding and tummy tucks do in this age.
I have found it is quite difficult, if not impossible, to find an ancient corset. Apparently, when a woman was through with hers, she was through! It usually wound up in the garbage heap. I can not say I would blame them. Even if for sentimental reasons, I think I would also just do away with it. Who wants to remember a device that instills this type of affliction.
I believe most people have someone in their ancestry who has worn types of lingerie corsets and bustiers. Bustiers seem to be the most comfortable of the two. I am not sure how I would have felt had I lived in the times which have passed. Women have gone through so much to try to be appealing to men in their society. It had to have taken most of their day to accomplish such beauty. Was it worth all the trouble?

It comes from the French linge which means “linen”, soon the English adopted that word in their language and gave it a new meaning “scandalous women underwear”. It is around the 1850s that lingerie came to be understood as underclothing. Little by little through the centuries, styles evolved and it became more and more popular to actually take as much care of our underwear as we do with our outerwear, so much care that a all new generation of fashion and models were born out of it. Nowadays you could tell much about men or women were you to know what they are wearing.
We express ourselves through what we are wearing, and lingerie plays along with our mood, we are definitely going to choose our underwear according to what we expect the day is going to be. Do we just want to be comfortable, sexy, attractive, playful, provocateur or provocative? I would even go so far as to say that wearing a certain type of underwear helps us in the “role” we want to play for the day…or evening. Because let’s face it, at the end of the day you want to show your partner that not only your personality was attractive but you also have taste and know how to be sexy at all times.
As I am promoting women lingerie, I will not expend on male lingerie, which is in many ways very simple compare to the wide choice women have.
Maybe it is because how high men value women, even if we don’t say so often enough. We do put them on a pedestal, and let’s face it women like it that way.
And this dates from way back, to the Egyptian times in fact where for the first time we could see pictures of women dancing in front of the court wearing only underwear. The “bikini” style was “born” in Greece and again we can see pictures of young women wearing a two-piece underwear performing tasks for the pleasure of the audience. As time went by the women notoriety grew but somehow they kept on wearing underwear for the male satisfaction even though it was not asked of them any more, expected for sure but not asked.
This makes me wonder and think about programs I watched on Animal planets were animals of all kinds had their own ways of seducing their “mates”.
Ladies, I am in no way comparing you to a cat that is going to sing all night to attract their male counterparts but there are similarities with other animals like birds were some female are going to show some parts of their feather and bend them a certain ways to reflect the light and then seduce the male.
Unless I am very mistaken, and please contact me if you believe I am, Lingerie is for me one of the essential part of the seduction game and has always been. When you see someone you like, with a great personality unravel herself and reveal her class while showing just for you the lingerie she selected, would it be corsets, bodystocking, thongs, or simple knickers, for each one has its own style, men can only melt in front of such a wonderful show.
Women are getting stronger and stronger in our society, which I think is a good thing anyway, but the more they show their equal to men the more they hide who they really are, feel and think under their working suits and for that I am extremely grateful to the Lingerie fashion world who has always known how to keep our dearest sweethearts as sexy as ever.
