Talk and Act
The main objective of forced air flow is not an increase in compression or the achievement of maximum pressure in the cylinder.
The purpose is the increase in volumetric productivity (the efficiency of the engine in terms of intake). And the forced intake is the most effective method of raising the compression in the cylinders.
Put a turbo on the engine with a compression ratio of 10:1 and you will see, as it is about to explode!
What things need to be taken into account when installing the turbo on the car?
When usual aspirated engine sucks air, it sucks just as much as it manages before the intake valve closes and the cylinder will be proof. The average atmospheric engine fills the air nearly 60% of its volume. As a result, only 60% of the engine is used productively.
The higher the tuning of the engine and the better it is configured – the more effective it will work. Many enthusiasts have spent a lot of time and efforts tuning their engines, but they could not achieve even 85% efficiency. The best way to achieve the same truly effective use of engine capacity – is to drive forcibly the fuel-air mixture in the cylinders (forced intake). Thus, the cylinders are filled more. The average engine with forced inlet works at 110% -150% of its volumetric efficiency.
If you increase the amount of air / fuel in the cylinders, as a result, you will get an increase in compression. But you can overdo it with it. To save the final compression ratio in the normal range, the initial degree of compression (without turbines) for compensation must be reduced.
More air allows more oxygen to participate in the combustion process, and with the addition of extra fuel the engine will produce more power. Installing the turbine or supercharger – is the best way to improve engine performance. When you install the turbo on the engine, not originally intended for it, there are several significant complications, which we should pay attention.
When you install the turbo system to maximize growth performance, you should also bore the cylinder head, put big valves and increased exhaust manifold with the exhaust pipe (in general, expand the channels across the inlet / exhaust system), because through the engine much greater volume of gases will flow.
Installing adjustable boost controller (boost controller) will let you to experiment on the stand-type track, having connected diagnostic equipment to the system in order to find the optimum boost pressure and advance operation.
Particular attention should be paid to the fuel supply. More air needs more fuel; otherwise you risk the integrity of the engine, feeding depleted mixture into the combustion chamber. You also need to avoid over enrichment of fuel mixture at lower boost, since it can destroy the engine.
When you install the turbo system on a simple motor, the current system of fuel supply is unlikely to be able to provide the engine enough fuel.
So you will have to increase the pressure in the system with a new fuel pump and pressure regulator fuel system. The nozzles also have to be replaced.

When it comes to tuning of turbines, then you have unlimited potential and a wide selection of options.
The more power you want to extract from the turbine, the greater the temperature and stress on internal components is.
Turbines at the petrol engines can reach temperatures of 1100 degrees and speeds of 100000 – 150000 rpm, and some modern small turbines reach nearly in twice more turns.
The broken-down seal or old bearing will be «the kiss of death» for the turbine. This is the biggest risk for turbines operating at full throttle and high revs.
There are two main ways to upgrade your turbine. The first is relatively simple and can be implemented easily by a competent mechanic. It includes the dismantling of their original turbines and secondary processing of its innards (restoration, repair, fix marriage, etc.).
Sometimes this way is associated with the replacement of turbine components, although it still meets your standard turbine in terms of installation and physical quantities.
You can buy kits for turbo systems at a wide range of retailers and professionals in the field of turbo. Attention is paid to form of openings for air inlet and the profile of the turbine to maximize the exhaust duct and the air inside the cochlea.
Change the shape of the blades and geometry for maximum air flow; replace thrust bearings on the ball and installation of oil seals for added strength will increase endurance of the turbine, allowing it to operate freely at much higher pressure.
We strongly recommend switching to the turbine on ball bearings – they rotate faster, withstand high speed and temperature.
The second way.
It includes more radical changes in the structure of the turbine.
The changes encompass all components of the turbine, often including the installation of additional oil-cooling tubes and pipes. Often the turbines are collected from various best parts from other turbines, forming a hybrid device.
The transition to a system consisting of two turbines (twin turbo) or a big not falls under this category, although in the lower boundary of the spectrum the use of many secondary modifications turbines require only a modified downstream of exhaust pipe (in the engine exhaust manifold), and due to taking a little more space in the engine compartment, you may need to redirect a few pipes and cables.
For best results you should reprogram the ECU (electronic control unit), so you can take into account the characteristics of the turbine and extract the maximum power. The greater amount of air into the engine will require increasing the fuel supply. Depending on how much power you want to extract, you may also need to replace fuel injectors and fuel pump.
All types of turbines, including the turbo, can be upgraded in such a way, and you may receive 100% increase of power. Since the temperature of the turbo is less than the gasoline engine, there turbines tend to be more reliable. Therefore, the boundaries of their modifications, as the original aggregates production, are wider.
Turbochargers in diesel engines are driven by fewer exhaust gases, so tend to be smaller in size than their counterparts for gasoline engines.
Looking to the increase in engine power above 70%, you should think about the replacement of the internal motor (installed forged pistons, etc.). Increase the supply of fuel. Also, you may need customization of boost controller and bypass valve.
Whatever replaces you have done, we strongly recommend to replace bearings in the turbine on the ball ones as they rotate faster, withstand high speeds and temperatures, and such systems are more reliable than turbines with thrust bearings.
